Who are we? I don’t think we even fucking know, but here we are ready to talk about books, life, and the craziness of it all!
Hey gang, Hayley here. Grab a beer, pull up a chair, and let me tell you a little story about the birth of this awkweird podcast. Well, Jen, Karlee, and I became friends while working together. I’m not sure how our friendships came to be, but I’m glad they did! Over the years, we’ve bonded over our love for books and beer.
In April of 2022, Karlee and Jen were reading Rock, Paper, Scissors by Alice Feeney for a book discussion at work. They both text me individually and told me how much they thought I would enjoy this book. I caved, downloaded the audiobook, and couldn’t stop listening. I spent the last third of the book texting back and forth with them and discussing the book over beers with Karlee. I forgot how much fun it is to read books with your buddies and have someone to talk to when things go nuts in a book.
Fast forward to June of 2022. Jen and I had met to talk about books over coffee and she had shared one of her favorite series by V.E. Schwab with me. Again, I realized how great the shared experience is over books and brews (coffee or beer). I posed the idea in mid-June to the gang and asked how they felt about starting a podcast. It would be a way to get us reading, push us to read out of our comfort zones, and give us a reason to crack open some beers and hang out.
We started throwing out names. It started as “Books, Brews, and ….. Broads or Babes or something with a “B”. Books because we knew it would be a book discussion style podcast and we figured the beer would be a good way to loosen up and get us talking and laughing. Karlee jokingly added “boobs” to this list of potential “b’s” probably not realizing that Jen and I would love it because…well, we all have them and can appreciate a good pair. Thus “Books, Brews, and Boobs” was born. “Educated and Awkweird” was also on the potential name list because we are all super smart and Karlee describes herself as “awkweird”. We decided it would be the perfect tagline and filled out the title nicely.
Since you’ve read this far: might as well grab a book, your favorite beer, and join our awkweird corner of the internet.
We’re glad you’re here, ya weirdo!
